Description/Job Summary

The ag lender maintains, grows and services a portfolio while representing Farm Credit Illinois in the community and creating relationships with the people of rural America.


Portfolio Management

  • Generates loan and crop insurance growth by seeking new business opportunities and managing existing portfolio by identifying current customer needs
  • Researches and reviews data resources to identify opportunities and qualified applicants
  • Attends auctions, ag seminars, customer events, community events, etc. and solicits referrals
Loan Origination
  • Originates loan applications by assessing customer and prospect needs
  • Determines how to meet those needs and discusses the loan structure, including interest rates, collateral, amortization, payment schedule, etc., to optimize the outcome for the customer and Farm Credit Illinois
  • Identifies loan opportunities
Credit Analysis
  • Collects and assesses qualitative and quantitative business and financial information and follows up for clarification if needed
  • Prepares application for Credit Services Division by determining what business and financial  information is needed
  • Analyzes the business and financial information, writes a supportive narrative and pulls data together to prepare an application for submission
Credit Influence and Outcome
  • Communicates with the Credit Services Division to negotiate and influence the credit decision of the loan term and loan structure to ensure a decision is made that is best for the customer and association
  • Provides additional information to Credit as needed
  • Participates on loan committee to clarify and present information as needed
  • Reviews analysis for information and appropriate interpretation
  • Communicates credit decision to customer
Business Counseling
  • Combines ag and business knowledge to understand each customer’s and prospect’s current financial position
  • Identifies credit and management strengths and weaknesses
  • Provides innovative and workable alternatives to counsel and solve problems the customer faces in their ongoing farm operations
Loan Closing
  • Closes loans by ensuring all loan and legal requirements are met and accurate
  • Ensures customer expectations are met and creates a positive member experience
Loan Servicing
  • Anticipates loan actions and servicing
  • Identifies risks within the portfolio and determines if corrective action is needed
  • Creates and monitors effective servicing plans
Public Relations
  • Participates in customer appreciation events and activities to enhance relationships
  • Develops and maintains a professional presence in the ag community through active involvement in professional groups and community activities
  • Monitors the public relations budget and time allocation
  • Identifies key contacts and resources to build relationships with
Continuous Education
  • Attends activities to build upon expertise in various aspects of agriculture, finance and economics
  • Enhances knowledge pertinent to the geographical region or territory

  • General knowledge of ag macro and micro economics

  • Skill in negotiating complex agreements to achieve the best outcome for the organization

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in business or finance with a minimum of 3 years work experience in a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to perform the essential functions of the job. Additional years of work experience is welcomed.
