Description/Job Summary

The Credit Assistant processes complex loan application packages for credit analysis and underwriting.



Loan Application Package

  • Processes complex loan application packages by: 
    • Reviewing information for eligibility, accuracy and completeness
    • Compiling, consolidating, adjusting and reviewing financials
    • Entering information into underwriting tool
Financial Input
  • Inputs financial data received by the branch by:
    • Reviewing and updating the member and/or field provided financials for completeness and accuracy
    • Comparing prior year financial information to current year to check for consistency and adequacy
    • Entering the financial information into the system

Mortgage Loans

  • Retrieves and reviews completed appraisals on mortgage loans
  • Presents training materials and best practices for process implementation
  • Compiles information and documents step-by-step process
  • Hosts continuous job shadowing and serves as a constant resource for day-to-day training questions in credit, collateral and processing
  • Prepares and presents internal credit training to all loan staff, formally and informally
  • Maintains awareness of legal changes that impact processes
  • Participates in updating association procedures, creating new procedures, and preparing reference guides
Program Testing
  • Tests features of existing and new credit-related software prior to implementation and documents a consistent process
  • Coordinates and participates in training work groups
  • Identifies errors and flaws in a program or process
  • Builds and develops reports with outside resources
  • Generates reports monthly, quarterly, and annually to measure department performance and procedural compliance
  • Verifies the data and reviews reports for accuracy Investigates reports results and identifies cause of errors of non-compliance
  • Requests and collects information from the field to create reports


Required Skills

  • Expert knowledge and understanding of credit processing
  • General knowledge of credit analysis and regulatory requirements

  • Oral and written communication skills, sufficient to exchange information effectively with peers, supervisor and customers

Required Qualifications

Associate's degree in business, accounting, finance or a related field and a minimum of 3 years work experience in loan processing;
Or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to perform the essential functions of the job.
