Description/Job Summary

The General Ledger Accountant maintains assigned general ledger accounts and prepares standard general ledger reports.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
General Accounting (85% of time)

  • Maintains specific subsidiary ledgers as assigned
  • Prepares specific account reconciliations as assigned
  • Monitors and adjusts cash and direct note accounts daily as compared to our district bank’s direct note balance
  • Prepares and enters specific general ledger entries as assigned
  • Monitors and adjusts specific clearing accounts daily as assigned

Accounting Related Inquiries (10% of time)

  • Responds to inquiries regarding general ledger detail from others in the association
  • Prepares general ledger reports for month end reporting, board reporting and performance of controls

Special Projects (5% of time)

  • Completes ad hoc projects associated with general ledger data
  • Implements approved accounting process changes

Required Skills

  • Knowledge of accounting best practices
  • Skill in analyzing data
  • Skill in producing reports
  • Skill in utilizing Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook to increase efficiency and effectiveness
  • Oral and written communication skills sufficient to discuss a variety of job-related topics, and to effectively communicate complex topics to a variety of audiences
  • Skill in organizing material and information in a systematic way to optimize efficiency
  • Ability to work in a team environment as well as work independently
  • Skill in prioritizing assignments to complete work in a timely manner
  • Ability to work in a changing environment and adapt accordingly

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related field and a minimum of 3 years of experience with general ledger maintenance;
Or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to perform the essential functions of the job.
A higher level of experience is welcomed.
