Description/Job Summary

The Vice President, Large and Agribusiness Loans underwrites and approves/denies large, complex, agribusiness and commercial loans by providing comprehensive credit underwriting.


Credit Analysis

  • Reviews initial data entry and identifies and corrects errors and omissions
  • Adjusts financials as needed for asset values and verified debt
  • Completes credit underwriting for new loans, loan participations, and loan servicing requests through a comprehensive risk analysis of character, capacity, capital, collateral and conditions
  • Ensures financial ratios meet lending standards or have sufficient offsetting assets
  • Completes risk analysis by determining the risk rating and loss given default assignment
  • Determines credit approval  or denial or recommends approval/denial to the Loan Committee for final consideration
  • Determines eligibility and appropriate scope of financing
  • Creates written narrative of the financial analysis and identifies trends, strengths, weaknesses, conformity to lending standards and risks

Credit Services Division Expertise

  • Provides credit resources within the Credit Services Division by
    • Assisting with credit approval information needs and accuracy
    • Determining eligibility and ensures financial ratios meet lending standards or have sufficient offsetting assets
    • Making asset value adjustments
    • Determining resources to utilize
    • Determining risk rating and Loss Given default  assignment
    • Approving or denying  loans
  • Provides credit training and ongoing project involvement

Loan Committee Participation

  • Serves on the Credit Services Division Loan Committee and the Association Loan Committee
  • Reviews, discusses, and considers the benefit and risks of loans
  • Determines approval or denial of loans
  • Determines loan structure, terms or modifications

Industry Expertise

  • Determines credibility of outside sources of macroeconomic trends and forecasts along with the potential impact on underwriting and portfolio risk

Required Skills

Expert knowledge in credit analysis and regulatory requirements

Working knowledge of Excel sufficient to create, update and save a variety of documents

General knowledge of production agriculture

General knowledge of finance and macroeconomics

Skill in utilizing technology to increase efficiency

Skill in balancing logic and intuition to make sound decisions in a timely manner

Skill in differentiating significant and insignificant details

Oral and written communication skills, sufficient to exchange information effectively with peers, supervisor and customers

Preferred Experience

5 years of related experience in credit analysis or underwriting; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to perform the essential functions of the job

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in finance, agriculture, business or related field
