Description/Job Summary

The Vice President Crop Insurance Services provides leadership and strategic direction to the Association’s crop insurance sales and processing initiatives.  Leads, coaches and provides direction to the crop insurance team members and to the association regarding crop insurance strategies.  The incumbent also manages relationships with Approved Insurance Providers (AIPs) and pursues books of business for purchase.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategy and Planning
  • Leads the development of the association’s crop insurance vision and strategies that incorporate emerging trends, tools, and best practices to meet the association’s business needs
  • Remains up-to-date and knowledgeable of industry trends and innovations to determine the potential value to the association and enhance the association’s competitive position, and provides related information to association leaders and staff.
  • Leads strategic crop insurance planning and development of the annual crop insurance plan to achieve business goals by collaborating with the appropriate teams
  • Leads and/or directs product development initiatives
  • Monitors the competitive marketplace and identifies best practice applications
Leadership
  • Ensures that major initiatives are implemented, standardized, and adhered to
  • Partners with field leaders, field staff, and servicing staff regarding crop insurance initiatives
  • Instills a participative teamwork environment across the association
  • Develops and maintains positive and participative working relationships across the association and district
Business Development
  • Actively involved in assessing and changing marketplace sales and delivery methods to ensure association objectives are met
  • Develops strategies for leveraging the association’s insurance business model that result in a distinctive advantage to growing the portfolio and engaging customers in an extraordinary experience
  • Oversees product knowledge, sales, and servicing training as it pertains to crop insurance
  • Agency acquisitions:
    • Identifies crop insurance agencies to evaluate for purchase
    • Provides analysis for agency acquisitions
    • Participates in the negotiation and execution of purchase contracts
AIP Relationship Management
  • Negotiates commissions, volume commitments, and rates with AIPs annually
  • Identifies training opportunities and provides feedback on actions to make AIP products more marketable
  • Identifies AIP products that are a good fit for the association
Management
  • Develops, motivates and empowers direct reports
  • Directs and motivates employees towards objectives by establishing performance standards and measures performance against standards
  • Provides feedback and rewards employees for performance in a timely manner
  • Coaches and counsels employees to improve performance
  • Recruits, hires and on-boards new direct reports
Crop Insurance Operations
  • Develops relationships with AIPs, key strategic business leaders, and industry influencers
  • Resolves problems related to the sales and servicing of crop insurance
  • Leads resolution of legal matters pertaining to errors and omissions
  • Develops and maintains appropriate internal policies and procedures
  • Provides accurate and meaningful reports on insurance sales, servicing, and business, and monitors for appropriate insurance administration

Required Skills

  • Expert knowledge of crop insurance regulations, policies and procedures
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining relationships with a variety of internal and external contacts to advance the association’s interests and increase personal efficacy
  • Skill in negotiating complex agreements to achieve the best outcome for the association
  • Skill in business development, marketing and public relations
  • Skill in analyzing current business processes and identifying and implementing opportunities for improvement
  • Skill in utilizing a systematic approach to problem solving
  • Skill in focusing and concentrating on details, along with differentiating significant and insignificant details
  • Skill in applying processes and procedures to factual data to make a logical decision
  • Skill in engaging, collaborating, and building trust with others
  • Skill in interacting and working effectively with others
  • Oral and written communication skills, sufficient to exchange information effectively
  • Skill in listening and conveying awareness
  • Skill in utilizing technology to increase efficiency

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in agriculture, business or a related field and 10 years of experience selling and servicing crop insurance policies; Or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to perform the essential functions of the job

Must have or being willing to obtain a valid crop insurance license


Location:  Mahomet, Illinois is preferred, but could be negotiable for the right candidate.
